We Raised over $6,300 for Cancer Research via Relay For Life!

HR Strategies recently participated in the Gwinnett Relay For Life event, hosted at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, on Friday May 10, 2013. For never having participated as a company before, they far surpassed expectations; raising over $6,300 for cancer research.

HR Strategies was a corporate sponsor for the event, donating the first $3,000 for Bronze Level Sponsorship. HR Strategies CEO, Jim Beesley, challenged the internal staff to match the company’s contribution of $3,000; and after just one month of fundraising, the internal staff and their family and friends rose to the challenge and raised over $3,100 by the Friday of Relay For Life.

At the actual event at the Gwinnett Fairgrounds, HR Strategies set up tents and tables and sold cold water, Frisbees, and raffle tickets for haircuts, shampoo sets, and a hair care gift bag worth over $200. Genesis Salon in Hamilton Mill, an extension of Salon 124, generously donated the hair products and haircut gift certificates to HR Strategies. HR Strategies also sold temporary tattoos and glitter tattoos—both of which were a huge hit with the kids at Relay. They also had a few internal employees painting faces, and there was a constant waiting line for face painting. Their onsite fundraising efforts raised over $200, bringing their overall total funds raised to $6,302.

HR Strategies is excited to make participating in Relay For Life as a company a tradition. Having only a month to prepare for this past Relay, their internal staff are all enthusiastic to get started early next year, and to set even higher fundraising goals. Philanthropy is imperative to the HR Strategies staff; they know how important it is to support the community. We are pleased to announce our newest staff members!

We are pleased to announce that Susan Clotfelter has joined HR Strategies as a Sr. Human Resources Consultant.  Susan has extensive Human Resource experience in a variety of positions within the corporate world, and as an independent HR consultant. Susan holds a BS in Business Administration, with a major in Human Resources from Auburn University, along with an MBA from Auburn University at Montgomery, and her SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resource) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.

Also as a result of our growth, we have split the Finance role into two distinctive functions: Corporate Finance and Tax and Accounting. Brandy Barden has joined HR Strategies as Vice President of Finance, managing all aspects of internal business accounting and finance. Brandy is not new to HR Strategies, as she has been auditing us for the last four years, working for our CPA firm, Brooks, Cook & Associates for seven years. Brandy has a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master’s in Business Administration. Brandy brings a very strong background, having worked in public accounting for over nine years.    

Investing in our internal employees’ well-being through the Humana Vitality Program.

HR Strategies is encouraging health and well-being among their internal employees, and their families, by promoting and encouraging active participation in the Humana Vitality wellness program. In kicking off the program, Jim Beesley, CEO, stated “We are excited to offer a new wellness initiative that we think our employees will enjoy. We want them to understand that we value our employees and want to help remove the obstacles to reaching their goals in healthy living, while giving them the support and tools to help make lasting changes in their lives.”

Announcing our latest training session, to be held on December 13th, 2012, focusing on the Hottest Topics in HR as we approach the year 2013!

The session will be presented by Ed Cheroff, an attorney with the prestigious employment law firm Jackson Lewis. The session will discuss the EEOC Background Screening regulations that were issued summer 2012; the increased outpour of I-9 audits and I-9 retention guidelines; recent NLRB decisions regarding employment at will challenges, and the importance of updated policies and employment handbooks. The training will also address the Wage and Hour division of the DOL in regards to hours worked, overtime, exemption status, and other pay practices. Additionally, there will be a brief update on the health-care reform, as it is now post-election. This is the fourth of the series for 2012, and clients can expect a different topic affecting management and business to be presented quarterly. As always the training session is completely free for clients, who can expect to enjoy top of the line speakers and a delicious catered holiday lunch buffet compliments of HR Strategies. The Management Training Series proves to be another way that HR Strategies bestows the value of HR outsourcing to our client companies.

HR Strategies recently had the opportunity to participate in the St. Jude Give Thanks.

HR Strategies recently had seven staff members and their families walk in this important fundraiser, and was very pleased that those staff members were able to raise approximately $1450. To show support of St. Jude and the staff members’ fundraising, HR Strategies matched the employees fund raising efforts 100%.

HR Strategies recognizes the importance of St. Jude as it is “internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The hospital’s research has helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancer from less than 20 percent when the institution opened to almost 80 percent today. It is the first and only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and no family ever pays St. Jude for care.”

MariaElena Ayala, VP of Client Services stated “I am thankful for my three healthy children. As a parent I know firsthand how difficult it is when we see one of them ill. That's why I feel so strongly about helping St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I am thankful that they are there for the families that need them.” Her sentiments rang true throughout the company and HR Strategies hopes that you will also choose to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

HR Strategies Attended the NAPEO 2012 Annual Conference

As a member of NAPEO (National Association of Professional Employer Organizations), HR Strategies had the opportunity to have Jim Beesley, CEO; Georgiana Britt, VP of Operations; Russ Berkhan, VP of Sales; and Will Beesley, Business Development Manager, attend the 2012 Annual Conference. During the three day conference, PEO’s from around the country gathered for educational sessions and discussion forums related to the PEO industry and small to mid-sized businesses.

Educational sessions at the conference included a variety of topics, allowing attendees to bring back vast new information to enhance their strategic HR operations. Topics included in the conference covered Health Care Reform – The Road to 2014, with three separate foci on reform (government, health insurance industry, and PEO’s); Winning Strategies for Unemployment Claims, knowing the variations to the law and how to approach them; Top Ten Reasons Employers Get Sued, and how to fashion and administer employment policies in a ways that minimizes the risk for litigation. Additional topics covered were Business Continuity in a Cyber World, Terminating an Employee with a Workers’ Compensation Claim, Risk Management and Its Effect on the PEO Industry, the EEOC’s New Guidance on Background Checks, and An Examination of Critical State and Federal Issues regarding the Legislative and Regulatory Landscape for PEO’s.

HR Strategies continued membership in NAPEO, along with their attendance at the 2012 Annual conference, is just one way that they continue to be able to gain information and knowledge to stay at the forefront of the PEO and HR industry, and supply their clients with top-notch services.

Veronica “Ronnie” Wray joined our team on August 13th; she will be providing support in our Client Services department.  Veronica is originally from Brooklyn, New York; but spent 12 years abroad before settling in the Southeast, and eventually in Georgia in 1993. Veronica has over thirty years of experience in the fields of personnel, payroll, accounting, and benefits. Nineteen of them have been in the PEO industry.  With her various life experiences and extensive HR Administrative background, we are excited to have Veronica on staff to help support our client service team, and all of our clients!

Management Training: Health Care Reform, to be held on September 14th, 2012

Health Care Reform can be tricky; this important training seminar will help provide some clarity and guidance. We have taken extra measures to secure speakers from all over the United States to make sure you and your company will be fully educated and prepared for the future of healthcare. Bill Hrabik, the Director of PEO and Association Development at Humana, will be coming all the way from Humana Headquarters in Kentucky to speak to us about the coming changes in Health Care Reform. Our main speaker is Kim Wilcoxon, ERISA attorney with Thompson Hine, and she will be flying in from Ohio. After each individual speaker, they will form a panel to answer all of your Health Care Reform questions.

We are Growing!
As operations continue to grow, we recently  welcomed two new members to our staff.
Joining us in our Benefits Department is Denisse Morgado. Denisse holds a Bachelor’s degree, from the University of Georgia, in International Business and French.  Her previous work experience includes both customer service and benefits administration.  As a Benefits Specialist, Denisse is a part of the team of specialists who assist worksite and internal employees in enrolling in the vast selection of benefits that are available through HR Strategies, and also demonstrates quality customer service in answering any questions that clients and employees have regarding the benefits offered. 
Also joining our team, as Receptionist, is Lori Giles. Lori’s background includes a CNA from Athens Tech. She has worked in the past as a CNA, but also has several years of experience as a legal assistant. With her various industry experience and warm personality, we were pleased to bring Lori on board.

We are pleased to announce that MariaElena Ayala has joined HR Strategies as Vice President of HR/Client Services. MariaElena has over 15 years of Human Resource Management experience, including HR responsibilities in the PEO industry, as well as Senior Human Resource Management experience in corporate environments. She holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and the highest professional distinctions of SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) and CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) in the HR and Benefits fields. In the past, she has worked with Jim Beesley and Allen Bodenhagen along with several other HR Strategies’ staff members.

Reporting to Jim Beesley and Allen Bodenhagen; MariaElena will manage Client Services, Human Resources, Payroll, Benefits, and Worker’s Compensation. We are excited to have MariaElena with us, and look forward to having you meet her.

Allen Bodenhagen will be moving to a specialized role with HR Strategies in which he will continue to advise and interface with clients and internal staff. He will begin this role on April 2, 2012.

We are sure that MariaElena, along with our entire staff, will continue to provide the best possible service to all of our clients.

Get Rewarded for Healthy Living

Time Tracker "tracks" more than hours

Identifying a need by their clients to have a web based Time & Labor Management solution, HR Strategies has rolled out their latest technology offering known as “Time Tracker” & “Time Tracker Plus”.  The new offering allows HR Strategies to meet the job costing needs of clients, along with providing an efficient, easy to use, web-based time entry for payroll.  Through the Time Tracker systems, HR Strategies is able to offer their clients a choice of data collection methods including: traditional swipe, personal handheld devices (PDAs), Biometric (hand recognition, fingerprint), and external systems (access control, phone switches). Additionally, the choices allowed to clients choosing to utilize the new Time Tracker software packages continue to provide a myriad of options customizable to the client’s unique needs of tracking their employee’s hours and productivity

Disaster Recovery Plan: Preparing for the Unforeseen

HR Strategies has unveiled its comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plan through which the company is hoping that their client’s will be able to rest easier knowing that client employees will still receive their paychecks, benefits, and other human resource administrations in case of an unforeseen natural or otherwise occurring disaster. The development and implementation of the plan involves an offsite location that is prepared to function as their Backup Operations Site. This offsite location houses all of their computer and operational equipment, to which all of their data is backed up nightly, and all of their critical data is fully encrypted and backed up hourly twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. Key staff members will be relocated to this site in the event of a disaster, and all other staff members will have complete remote access via the internet. HR Strategies has committed to annual testing simulation of the plan, as well as continual investment of time and resources to further develop and implement the Disaster Recovery Plan. 

Flexible Spending Account Open Enrollment

HR Strategies is pleased to announce that open enrollment for their Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) will be ongoing through November 30, 2011, for the 01/01/2012 through 12/31/2012 plan year.

Flexible Spending Accounts are a wonderful way for employees to take advantage of great tax savings on health and dependent care expenses. By designating a portion of their income to an FSA, the employee is able to have that dollar amount withdrawn before taxes are taken out. In doing so, they lower their taxable income, and essentially raise their take home pay.

HR Strategies is excited to continue partnering with Eflex in the next plan year to continue bringing this valued benefit to our clients and worksite employees. By partnering with Eflex as our FSA, we have chosen an FSA that is able to grant web access, debit cards, and ease to the participants in the plan.
